Our PADI Open water certification course here in Costa Rica can be completed in three easy steps so read on and get started today.
During the course you will learn all of the basics of scuba diving, the aquatic world and most importantly, have fun, all from the surroundings of the Costa Rican jungle.
The Knowledge Development portion of the course develops your familiarity with basic principles and procedures of scuba diving. These include topics such as how pressure affects your body, how to choose the right gear and dive planning. You can complete this two ways, either as independent study online through PADI e-learning or through classroom sessions at the dive center.
Confined Water Sessions
After a quick quiz and classroom review you are now we are going to get wet and go diving! During this section of your open water course you will learn basic scuba skills in our onsite swimming pool. You will start with basics like how to set up your diving gear, clearing your mask and regulator of water, hovering and many other important skills. You will also be able to play in the pool, practicing your new found skills and experiencing weightlessness!
The skills learned in the pool will prepare you to dive in a variety of open water environments, including diving in Manuel Antonio and nearby Cano island.
Open Water Dives
Last part, almost there! After finishing up your pool and classroom, you can head into the ocean for your four open water dives. Here you can put into practice all of the skills that your learnt in the pool, as well as swim with the fish on our local volcanic reef! Your four open water course dives can be completed in just 2 days and if you want, can be combined with a trip to Cano Island to scuba dive with the sharks. If you already have your classroom and academics and you just need your open water dives then we can complete that here too as part of our scuba diving referral program. Once you have completed your dives then you can fill out your log book with your instructor, get your certification card and head out into the wide blue world
Prerequisites for the PADI Open Water Course
To enroll you must:
- Be 10 years or older
- Complete the following required forms:
• PADI Medical Statement (PDF)
• Liability Release and Assumption of Risk Agreement (PDF)
• Standard Safe Diving Practices Statement of Understanding (PDF)
• Youth Diving Responsibility and Risks Acknowledgment (PDF)
